Helpful information about our air conditioning services, installations, maintenance and repairs across Sydney.
01
General
What services does Ethos Air provide?
We provide air conditioning servicing and preventative maintenance, repairs and fault finding, replacement and installation, and support with HVAC-related indoor air quality and comfort concerns.
We work across residential and commercial environments, including workplaces, schools, government and community facilities.

What areas of Sydney do you service?
Ethos Air is based in Macquarie Park, and we service homes and businesses within about 30 minutes of our base. That covers Ryde and the surrounding suburbs, the Lower and Upper North Shore, Hornsby and the Hills District, Parramatta, and Canada Bay through to the Inner West.
Keeping our service area focused means our technicians spend more time on your system and less time in traffic. It also means we can respond quickly when something goes wrong.

What if I'm just outside your service area?
Get in touch anyway. We regularly take on installations, replacements and commercial projects slightly beyond our core area, and we'll let you know upfront if a travel component applies.
Do you work with commercial properties across Sydney?
Yes. We work with property managers, facilities teams and businesses in precincts including Macquarie Park, Lane Cove, Chatswood, St Leonards, North Sydney, Rhodes, Sydney Olympic Park, Parramatta and Norwest. For multi-site portfolios, we can talk through coverage for locations further afield.
Do you work with both homes and businesses?
Yes.
Residential and commercial HVAC involve many of the same technical skills, but the way the work is planned and delivered can be quite different.
For homeowners, that often means understanding how the home is used, comfort priorities, installation constraints and budget.
For commercial customers, there may also be operating hours, access, reporting, safety requirements, multiple assets and longer-term maintenance planning to consider.
We adapt the approach to the environment rather than treating every job the same way.

What brands do you work with?
We work with a range of established air conditioning brands including Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, ActronAir, Fujitsu and others.
For a new installation or replacement, we recommend equipment based on what is appropriate for the space and application rather than simply promoting one brand.

Can you work on an air conditioner you didn’t install?
Yes.
Most service and repair work involves equipment installed by someone else. We can inspect, service, diagnose and repair existing systems where the equipment is within our technical scope and parts and technical information remain reasonably available.

Residential
My air conditioner has stopped working. Does that mean I need to replace it?
Not necessarily.
We assess the fault and consider the system’s age, condition, repair cost, service history, parts availability and likely remaining life before recommending what comes next.
If repairing it makes sense, we’ll tell you.
If replacement is likely to be the better long-term decision, we’ll explain why.

How do you decide what size air conditioner I need?
Room size matters, but it isn’t the whole calculation.
We also consider things such as the orientation of the space, windows and glazing, insulation, ceiling height, heat load, room layout and how you actually use the area.
For larger or more complex systems, further assessment may be required.
The aim is to choose equipment that suits the home rather than simply replacing an existing unit with the same nominal capacity.

Split system or ducted — which is better?
Neither is automatically better.
A split system can be an excellent solution where you need to condition individual rooms or only part of the home. Ducted systems can provide whole-home comfort and a cleaner visual result, but installation requirements and cost are different.
We look at the home, how you use it and what you want to achieve before recommending one over the other.

Can you replace an existing system without changing everything else?
Sometimes.
If existing pipework, electrical supply, drainage, ductwork or other components are suitable and compatible with the new equipment, some may be able to remain.
We assess this before confirming the scope. Reusing something simply because it is already there is not always the best long-term option.

I live in an apartment. Can you still install air conditioning?
Usually, but apartment installations can involve additional considerations.
Strata approval, access, outdoor-unit location, appearance, drainage, electrical supply and building rules can all affect what can be installed.
We can assess the HVAC requirements and identify any issues that need to be addressed before work proceeds.

One room is always hotter or colder than the others. Can you help?
Yes.
Uneven comfort can have several causes, including airflow, ducting, zoning, system capacity, building heat load, equipment performance or how the space is being used.
We’ll investigate the HVAC-related factors rather than assuming the thermostat setting is the problem.

Commercial
Can you help if we already have an HVAC contractor?
Yes.
You do not need to change your existing provider to work with Ethos.
Customers may use us for additional capacity, an urgent issue, a recurring or difficult fault, project work, equipment replacement or support when their usual contractor is unavailable.
Sometimes a first job simply gives both sides an opportunity to see how we work together.

Do you provide planned maintenance?
Yes.
Commercial maintenance should reflect the equipment and the site rather than simply applying the same service schedule everywhere.
We consider equipment type and condition, operating hours, environment, access, criticality and manufacturer requirements when recommending an appropriate maintenance program.

How often should commercial air conditioning be serviced?
It depends on the equipment and how heavily it is used.
Many commercial systems benefit from quarterly servicing, while some environments or equipment may require more frequent attention.
We recommend a schedule based on the site rather than servicing equipment simply because a calendar says it is due.
Your current Terms also provide for minimum quarterly commercial maintenance for Ethos contractual warranty eligibility.

Can you help us plan equipment replacement before it fails?
Yes.
One of the benefits of good maintenance is identifying deterioration before it becomes an emergency.
Where we see ageing equipment, recurring faults or developing reliability issues, we can flag what needs attention now, what can be monitored and what should be considered for future repair or replacement.
That can help turn an unexpected breakdown into a more manageable capital decision.

Do you provide service reports?
Yes.
Our aim is for reporting to answer three straightforward questions:
What did we do? What did we find? What should happen next?
Where useful, findings may include photographs, equipment condition observations and recommendations so the person managing the site has something practical to act on.

Can you work around tenants, staff, students or business operating hours?
Yes, where practical.
Commercial, education and community environments often require work to be planned around access, occupants and operating hours.
We discuss these requirements before the work is scheduled and, where necessary, can plan disruptive work for quieter periods, shutdown windows or other agreed times.

Service &
Service &
Maintenance
How often should I have my home air conditioner serviced?
For most residential systems, annual servicing is a sensible minimum.
How often a system actually needs attention can depend on how much it is used, the environment, pets, dust levels, filtration and manufacturer requirements.
Regular servicing can help identify developing problems, maintain airflow and keep the system operating as intended.
Your current Ethos warranty terms also require minimum annual domestic maintenance for contractual warranty eligibility.

Does servicing guarantee my air conditioner won’t break down?
No.
Preventative maintenance helps reduce risk and can identify problems before they become larger failures, but mechanical and electrical equipment can still develop faults.
We would rather be clear about that than imply that servicing makes equipment failure-proof. Your Terms similarly state that preventative maintenance does not guarantee uninterrupted operation.

What happens if you find another problem while repairing the original fault?
That can happen, particularly with older equipment.
Some systems have more than one fault, and occasionally a secondary problem only becomes apparent after the first issue has been corrected.
If we identify additional work, we’ll explain what we found and what we recommend before proceeding beyond any authority you have already given us.

Can you guarantee a repair will keep an older system running?
We guarantee the standard of the work we perform, but we cannot guarantee the future reliability of unrelated components in an ageing system.
If we believe a repair is technically possible but there is a significant risk of further problems, we’ll explain that before you make the decision.
This is also reflected in our Terms, which recognise that older equipment may contain multiple faults or experience further component failures.

Do you offer urgent or after-hours service?
Urgent and after-hours assistance may be available depending on technician availability, location and the nature of the issue.
If something is urgent, call Ethos and we’ll tell you what support we can provide.
I would deliberately not promise “24/7 emergency service” unless you are genuinely ready to resource that promise every day of the year.

& Comfort
Can you help with air quality as well as temperature?
Yes, where the issue relates to the HVAC system or indoor environment.
Comfort is influenced by more than temperature. Airflow, filtration, ventilation, humidity, system cleanliness and equipment performance can all affect how a space feels.
We can investigate relevant HVAC factors and explain what we find.
If the issue requires expertise outside our scope, we’ll tell you rather than pretending HVAC is the answer to everything.

Can an air conditioner bring fresh air into a building?
Some systems do, many do not.
A typical residential split system primarily recirculates indoor air rather than continuously introducing outdoor air.
Larger commercial and ducted systems may incorporate dedicated outside-air ventilation depending on how the building and system were designed.
If ventilation is a concern, we need to understand the actual system rather than assume fresh air is being provided.

What happens if something isn’t right after the job?
Contact us.
We’ll review what is happening and help determine whether the issue relates to our workmanship, the equipment or part itself, an existing condition or something else.
If the issue is covered by an applicable Ethos or manufacturer warranty, we’ll explain the process.
If it isn’t covered, we’ll tell you why and explain any recommended next step.

Will you help with a manufacturer warranty claim?
Where appropriate, yes.
We can assist with identifying the issue and dealing with the manufacturer where the equipment is subject to a manufacturer warranty.
Manufacturers ultimately determine whether a claim falls within their warranty conditions, so we cannot guarantee that a manufacturer will accept a claim.

Does having a warranty replace my Australian Consumer Law rights?
No.
Manufacturer and Ethos warranties operate in addition to rights and remedies that may apply under the Australian Consumer Law. Those statutory rights cannot be excluded where they apply.
